Mk6/7 sliding door sill construction ?

Postby aramsay » Tue Mar 28, 2023 9:33 pm

I'm rebuilding the sill area under the sliding door of an '04 MWB.

Can someone clarify how the sill / panels are put togther, as it's been repaired here already, and can't see the layers....

The bottom of the outer sill attaches to an inner sill (rusty bit in photo) wihch, as you look at it, goes up back to meet the box section that takes the bottom door-rollers. Is this inner sill part of the panel with the hole/slot, or is it part of the Z-shaped
flange the rubber seal attaches to (spotweld dabs showing in photo) ?

Clear as mud ?

You not got the new part yet , think you may have a bit of fabrication to do Image

I did my LWB RWD last year, assuming the LWB is the same design here's some photos of the work that might help.

I bought the outer sill section and fabricated the inner section. If I remember right, both are spot welded to the bottom of the door runner/step panel in a three way sandwich. The factory inner sill is contoured and spot welded along the bttom, but if you use flat panels instead the gap between the inner and outer sill is exactly the right size to fill with a piece of 12.7mm box section.
