Tensioner guide blade before en after march 2004 2.0TDCI

Postby Stevelien » Tue Apr 15, 2025 10:00 am

I ordered for my 04/12/2003 Transit 2.0tdci the right new chain tensioner 1138760. I see that the matching guide tension part number was to march 2004: 1096496. After march 2004 it was part 1112290. Those both fit the tensioner 113760 but the 2 guide plastic sides at the end of the later 1112290 has 2 little coves at each end of the sides of the plastic and mine old one and the prescribed before march 2004 1096496 has not (continuous side elevation). But if you see my used old tensioner guideplastic I detect scarves at the end of the plastic guide because of (to much) pressure before the chain goes around the crankshaft sprocket, see pic 3. Question, is the cove of the after march 2004 guide tensioner made to prevent this? And can this be used in before march 2004 2.0tdci engines? Is just the original part number mentioned in catcar info,1096496 (with the Ford SSM) and has this been upgraded by the new shaped plastic of the 1112290 after march 2004 to relieve the pressure at the end of the guiding blade? I am not talking about the wrong ratch type tensioner 1406306 with the other guide blade by the way, I know that that tensioner has been written off with that guide blade.
When you google pictures of the pre march 2004 part 1096496 and after march 2004 part 1112290 you can see the only difference is the cove at the 2 sides of the plastic guide.

Shouldn't make a difference. The earlier part has probably been superseded by the later part....an improvement as such.
