Compression reading. 2013 2.2rwd tdci

Postby Bigrhino86 » Fri Apr 18, 2025 12:25 pm

Hi bit of a long one parked van up would not start couple a month ago just got round to looking at it :x
Removed egr stuck open 20% would this cause it not to start, also glow plugs are done but been told would start with out them, while there did a compression test each cylinder is 350psi and one about 330psi am i correct in thinking these presures are good. I also had pump and injectors tested all ok, the timing chain had around 10mm of slack on guides so fitted new kit and set timing all spot on now.will start up eventually but not rev and idle for long could this be glow plugs/egr causing this Appreciate any help or advice thanks in advance

According to posts here ..glow plugs will not stop it starting, running, reving or idling, if you are in ambient non freezing conditions.
Your compression test is ok ..
The EGR, i think will prevent engine reving properly if stuck open, as then you have direct leak from area that should be under pressure from turbo from boost to exhaust. also the map sensor will not be happy .

You need to sort the EGR out before proceeding.
if its still the same then ..then you come back and ask more questions.

and best you plug it into a fault code reader and find out what it is showing

Hi thanks for reply and advice, i have built back up today with new glow plugs and egr, just got batterys on charge ready for trying to fire up tomorrow.i just wasnt sure on what a good psi reading eas on these engines. I have no fault codes apart from cylinder 1,2,3,4 glow plug circuit. No egr fault apart from egr error 99.12% on live data.
Thanks

does that mean its 99 percent open

think you may have to do an egr reset ..if that's on forscan
