Smoking

Hi guys, just drove from uk to france in à 2002 transit 2.4 diesel. It was running great then a slight loss of power, missing ànd lots of smoke. Got off the ferry in france ànd it ran fine again for 20 minutes then same thing happened. Changed down à gear and started missing, smoking then a massive backfire. Pulled in straight away ànd checked exhaust and the back fire had blown it apart. Any suggestions on what the problem is? Thanks

Back fire in exhaust is likely due to unburnt fuel entering.
Hole in piston, damaged rings, valves.
Was it blowing out of the oil filler?

No smoke coming out of oil cap when I checked, forgot to mention when it starts to miss fire ànd smoke if I turn it off and start straight away it’s ok again until I let the revs go low. Checked the diesel filter ànd these pipes don’t look original?

Got off the ferry in france ànd it ran fine again for 20 minutes then same thing happened.
Temperature/vibration. Wiring, connectors, pins. Gundge in radiator. Rad fins obstructed. Air flow through engine compartment obstructed.


Changed down à gear and started missing, smoking then a massive backfire.

started missing - HP pump/injector sticking/blocked injector nozzle holes, gunge being sucked up in inlet system from air cooler/turbo.
Gunge in inlet system from rocker box vent.
backfire - unburnt fuel in hot exhaust system.

Gunge in air inlet cooler, gunge/carbon in exhaust.
Low coolant/oil levels.
Gunge in radiator.

2002 23 yrs old, has the engine and its compartment been cleaned, rad, oil system, fuel system flushed?

Assuming TDDi..?? Glow plug light flashing..?? What fault codes are you getting..??
