ECU part number

Postby Chriss_hoare » Fri May 02, 2025 9:11 pm

Hi guys new here but hoping someone can help

My van is 2011 euro 4 2.2 fwd HR LWB 115 trend
AC, cruise control, auto lights, auto wipers, heated screen etc.

A while ago I had some repair work carried out which included needing a new ECU, as the van is my only work vehicle and the guy doing the work had already taken far longer than he initially estimated he told me he'd put in an ECU from a lower spec van (without all the features listed above) just to get me back on the road, then at a later date he'd fit a proper ECU to regain all my features none of which have worked since this other ECU has been installed. As far as I'm aware the bcm wasn't touched.

I'm now unable to get in touch with the man who carried out the work as he has seemingly disappeared so now I'm left with a van with the wrong ECU and none of the features working. Would anyone happen to have a van of the same or similar year/spec to be able to tell me the correct ECU part number and whether the 4 digit code before the part number relates to anything important.

Apologies for the long post and would really appreciate if someone could help.

There is no ECU, as such, there is a powertrain control module, PCM, and a body control module, BCM, the latter of which I assume is the part that was replaced :?:
If the BCM was replaced with a lower spec item, then it could be why you've lost some of the functions. Some of those functions can be activated in the lower spec box, but cruise needs the hi spec box to work.
I believe that the only indication of the high spec BCM is the suffix letter at the end of the part number /C or /D is what you're looking for I think (It's a while since I upgraded mine!)

So the guy must have changed the BCM but just told be is was the ECU as I've just had a look at the one currently in my van which ends with BK. What you said does add up with something else I read saying the second to last letter must be C for these features to be unlocked. I have found this BCM which seems like it should work.

I'll have to find the pictures I took, to see what numbers are on mine, but basically, I had to upgrade the "B" to a "C" which gave me access to several upgrades, some of which I never got around to installing

It will need programming, which I cheated and asked 'Vantuner' to do for me, and all keys needed to be re-learnt. There will be options to turn on/off when doing the programming :)

Thanks very much for all your help, I've only ever had one key for the van so would that be an issue or an I'm going to need to get a second key too?

You need to program a minimum of two keys, but I believe that you can get round it by programming one twice.
If it were me, I would take the opportunity to get a second key, and get it programmed at the same time because losing or damaging your only key is an expensive and inconvenient pastime these days.
