Dead battery, doors locked, key worn, no electric supply!

Postby mick205mcl » Wed May 07, 2025 10:55 pm

Hi I'm in a bit of bother as I have my old mark 7 in a garage with no electric near by although I charged the battery for 6 hours with a generator on fast charge and it's still only half charged but that's because I think it may have something to do with the solar panel I plugged into the 12v socket (read online that it might be draining the battery)! Battery was new September 2024.

Key doesn't open the driver's door but makes a noise as if it's trying to open it and I've tried charging it with a toothbrush charger for 24 hours and central locking still not working

Any suggestions or is the next option to wedge out the passenger door a bit a fish in some wire to try and open the driver's door? Thanks

Firstly, if the van was deadlocked, you won't be able to open it from the inside.
Do you happen to know if it has a single or dual battery setup? If its a RWD, it should have two batteries.

Its front wheel drive with one battery under the drivers seat. I'll try to go through the window and hope it's not deadlocked but any idea what to so if it is? Thanks

Single battery is easy, just open the bonnet and attach a 12v positive lead to the jump point next to the fuse box, and a negative lead to an engine earth, either from a jump pack, or better still, a running engine.
Once you've applied some power to the battery, the fob should open the central locking.
