Unread postby Kay1972 » Mon May 12, 2025 7:36 pm
Hi i have a mk 6
transit 2.4 fwd iv ordered a fuel filter
Housing and recieved a different type which i was told is also right for the vehicle but not sure how if works it has a manual prime button on top and a yellow nipple and a metal nut on top my old one had a clear indicator diesel level at the top were you pushed a rubber button down to prime how do i prime the new one do i open scew when priming and the extra nipple at the front wat is that for thanks
The early Transit's had a primer on top of the filter housing (as you describe). Later models deleted this. What you see on the new one is not a primer. It's a tester to check if you need to replace the filter. I've not waited that long to use it on mine...rather change the filter and keep it sweet anyway.
When you fit the new filter, make sure it's full to the brim with nice clean diesel. No primer I'm afraid, but if it was running nicely before, then it should start okay. Might be a bit lumpy until that air (if there is any) is purged. Light throttle at about 1500rpm should help.
