Rocker cover seals - again

Hi guys, a little help please, have searched the forum and read every post I could find, but still unsure...

140 T280 MK7, FWD, diesel.

18 months ago I had the rocker cover replaced, did all the injector seals, new seals, stretch bolts etc.etc. with new official Ford parts, torqued down properly.

A month or so ago noticed oil dripping, got a chance today to check it out, and there was a puddle of "clean" engine oil pooled around injector 3 in the top of rocker cover - obviously the culprit for dripping down the engine to the floor.

Any idea why this has happened again in such a short period of time? Is there too much pressure (but ive had a new cover), has the seal failed - in 18 months?! Is it a known / design fault? What to do?!

Such a pain in the ass Transits...

When working on customer sites with shiny clean driveways its expensive and embarassing to leave spots of oil on it.

Hi mate

Were the copper sealing seats in the top of the cylinder head thoroughly reamed and cut to remove any carbon? Failure of this step with often lead to a failure later on. Combustion gas from the cylinders can then “blow by” if not sealing perfectly leading to excess crankcase pressure.

Can you run the engine with oil filler cap off. Report back on how much chuffing and pressure you have. A small amount is okay.

I like to also undo the bayonet, so it’s unlocked and just rest it ontop.

If the cap dont blow off thats my “guide” to it. Being acceptable crank case pressure.

Make sure the crankcase ventilation hose into the intake pipe is also not blocked.

These dont have PCV, they basically recycle their crank case fumes back into the inlet side of the turbo via the rocker vent. A blockage could well cause a problem as could worn bores/ rings or a cracked piston. Unlikely but possible is yours euro 5 with the siemens system out of interest ? Not to scare you but they are fairly known to suffer with the latter.

Just very gently check to see if the injector bolts have not worked loose or snapped. Dont turn them if tight as they are single use torque to yield .. Particularly if euro 4 this can happen.

Yes, the injector seats were reamed and seated properly.

Well the oil cap blows off - so it must excess pressure - I bet its the damn injector seals again.

Arrgh. I dont get how it can go again so soon after being done properly with original (expensive!) Ford parts. Must be a design flaw.

You didn’t put it upside down ? Then it definitely would lol

Ok so assuming its breathing hard the next thing is pull air box off make sure that the small black rubber pipe coming off the rocker back right corner is all clear. (Likely) then check injector clamp and bolts.

Yes very expensive for the seals

One thing at a time. It could be other things that are causing it. Indirectly.

Never assuming when finding a fault or issue.

Always step back and review the possibilities

Im just a spare part here. Wait til the likes of knobby metalworker mark and andz come back on, these lads know these vans inside out and will have more suggestions

Yes, the cap was not upside down.

The pipe isnt blocked - the rocker cover and inlet manifold are both virtually new.

The engine runs sweet as a nut, not down on power at all. I think the EGR has been bypassed too.

By process of elimination it has to tbe the darn injector seals again. Oh well, will get them done again.

The van has only done about 80k. Transits = money pits !

Sorry been away. No, clamps not loose. Conclusion is its the injector seals again - why I dont know. Weve ordered new Ford bolts, seals etc. and will just get them replaced - again! thanks all.
