Intercooler pipe info, what is it, do i need it?

Postby blown up engine » Wed Jun 04, 2025 6:52 pm

Hi,

Way into replacing the blown engine at the garage, done most of the work myself to cut the costs down.

Intercooler pipe has some form of muffler

Its filled with oil so do i need it, can i run a straight pipe? if its to cut sound down, why have they done it, what is its use?

Also made some mods to the EGR that runs into the throttle body as that's been deleted. will post images in new post if you ask. WOW THE MESS INSIDE THE inlet manifold, so bad it needs to be steam cleaned sunday.

Kate.

Yes it's a "resonator" iirc, not specifically required but does cut turbo whilst.
Mines been running without one for years now, I like turbo whistle

(I also don't have a silencer, just the CAT after the turbo and straight piped, it makes a lovely woosh sound )
