It must've been badly corroded but was still in there, probably hanging on for dear life by just one strand. Trouble is it's broke right at the back of the pin on the loom side of the connector not the pad side. At least I've found it.

Just connect the two pad wear loom wires together and cut the wires from the pads off...this will have the light off, they're a closed loop system so when the pads wear down far enough, the wire wears through and opens the "loop", the light comes on...why we need a "pad wear" warning light is a mystery....only takes a couple of minutes to check pad wear at each service and replace as necessary....this seems to have worked for the last 50 years or so.

Check the rear one too. on a FWD its clipped to the rear beam.

Hopefully that'll sort it but who knows. Report back though for future reference.

Ok so I've got the Forscan light app on my phone and I have a code.

C1B00:08-2B Steering angle sensor
Additional fault symptom - Bus signal/message failures

So I've fitted a new steering rack and not yet had chance to take it for the wheel alignement to be done, been too busy trying to sort out other problems. When driving in a straight line the steering wheel's about 5 degrees to the left.

I'm guessing once the wheel alignement is sorted the steering wheel sensor will need calibrating, is this correct?
