Alignment of New Parts MK7 Water Pump and Vacuum Pump

Postby Lukeydookeydoo » Tue Jun 10, 2025 11:56 am

I am having no joy with the alignment of the vacuum pump and the water pump pulleys - the one I took off won't align with either of the two water pumps and the new vacuum pump won't either. It is causing squealing. It is doweled so should be an easy fit. The used original parts I see online show the two pulleys aligned, if not the vacuum pump pulley being a little further forward to the water pump. The parts I have are the opposite! It is making a hell of a squeal!

Can you take a photo of the "misalignment" for us..?? Sounds rather strange...I've fitted lots of vac and water pumps to the RWD's without issue.

I'll take a picture but all of the pulleys between vacuum pump and water pump of the many I've now tried seem to be our if alignment eg. Tooth one of the vacuum pulley does not line with tooth one of the water pump pulley. The genuine Ford item is in line but all of the pattern parts aren't. I'm getting belt squeal after replacing a water pump and replaced all apart from the alternator leaving only this issue or the alternator. I also saw another thread where the squeal was fixed by fi ig the alignment with a new pump.

Lots, don't know the actual "brands" of them, mostly cheap Chinese I suspect...I even have a water pump from TPUK on my beast...has been fine for years now..

Robust, TPUK (which was on the van) and whichever supplies Eurocarparts. I've just bought an OEM part to compare. Weird thing is that the pair of TPUK parts must've been working without squeal and with the misalignment. New water pump and it squeals. But since then I've replaced all of the pulleys apart from the alternator and it is still squealing - the vacuum pump and water pump feel hot after running too like a build up of friction. A dousing of water also silences the squeal.

I've now removed the water pump I had fitted and have ordered an OEM vacuum pump to compare it.
