Lumpy, misfires, rough to start.

Postby mikenco » Fri Jun 13, 2025 2:52 pm

I volunteer at a group with a mk7 LWB minibus. In the last few months, it's become harder to start. There is full cranking force, but it sounds like it's coughing, rattling and misfiring... you know when you start an old petrol barn find that hasn't been started for 30 years?.. like that! Once it starts, it runs perfectly normal. We put a reader on it and it says 'crankshaft position sensor'.

I have two questions:
1. Anyone else experienced this, is it likely to be the sensor?
2. Where is the sensor?? I have a poke around and found a couple of likely suspects!

Thanks,
Mike

You've not told us what model you have...Euro-4 or Euro-5..?? 2.4 or 2.2..?? FWD or RWD..?? They are very different.

OK, I'll look elsewhere, you obviously haven't heard of this symptom. Thanks anyway....

I have indeed heard of your symptoms, but it depends on what model Transit you have as to what the potential fix may possibly be.

There are several Mk7 Transits, petrol/LPG, Euro-4 diesel, Euro-5 diesel, FWD or RWD.... and several different engine PS ratings within them.

If you can't be bothered to tell us what model Transit you have...that's fine...look elsewhere, you won't find any better transit knowledge or help on the interweb than here with these knowledgeable guys, there are none better....

Good luck.
