Trouble identifying serpentine belt

Postby Dave11D » Wed Jul 02, 2025 6:58 pm

Hello guys, trying to identify the correct belt for a 2008 reg 2.4l 6speed rwd minibus, no aircon , the registration isn't telling them much in the spare parts place I deal with. Seems to be 2 or 3 variations.

Any ideas? I might end up trying to measure it!

sometimes they have 4 digits on the end of the number on the belt, if still visible -- this is the size of it.

There's only 2 belts for the Euro-4 2.4...one with A/C and one without.

Without A/C = 7PK2683

With A/C = 7PK2842

While we're on the serpentine belt, I decided it's time to replace mine yesterday, bit of squeak n squeal. When I pulled it out, saw it was narrower (6 ribs) than the new 7 rib. All pulleys have 7 grooves so fitted the new one. Starting it up, the belt ran one rib off the alternator pulley, ok, that's where the other rib went, sliced off. Kids' mother's Honda did the same, worn tensioner tilting at a very slight angle. New tensioner fixed hers, so I replaced mine. No difference, and the original is in perfect nick, tight as a bought one. Everything does point to that, alternator being the next point of contact for the belt. Anyone else had this? Any other suggestions? TIA.

Assuming RWD..?? Mk6 or Mk7..?? Euro-3, 4 or 5..?? You don't say what model Transit you have.

Has the timing chain cover been off previously/recently..?? Is the alternator pulley clutch working properly..?? Crank pulley not falling to pieces..?? Fan pulley and top idler pulley bearing ok..??

Greetings M'Lord.

Yes, I did slip up there, omitting those details. 2008 140HP RWD, Aus delivered LWB high roof. No idea what work was done in its first 260,000km, but I haven't had anything off the front of the engine in the 70,000 I've put on it.

Everything 'appears' to be in order. Just had a fiddle and play with all the other pulleys. However, the crank pulley does appear to have a very tiny out of round motion, maybe 1mm to the naked eye, and just noticed the belt isn't quite centred on the tensioner pulley, very slightly to the front of the van.

Get a Mk6 pulley...they never fall to pieces.
