mk6 transit chassis lengths

Postby mel85 » Tue Oct 30, 2012 2:02 pm

Hi wondering if anyone could help regarding chassis lengths?
Ive currently got a N reg transit that I use as a horsebox with an ifor williams box on the back, but it has just failed its MOT needing a lot of welding!! So I have decided to upgrade my chassis cab to a mk 6 :) the only problem is finding the right length mk6 transit to put my ifor back on!! My N reg one is an ex tipper and is aprox 3.1m in chassis length (the ifor back is 3.5m in length)
What length is the mk6 lwb tipper chassis or a mk6 dropside etc??
Can anyone recommend which transit would be best
Thanks

I know the crewcab tippers have a 9 foot back on them, my mates got a set of bolt on original ford chassis extensions for mk 6 if ur interested in them? Think they give about an extra foot or so,

cabs are approx 2.2 mtr
short wheel base chassis cab could take 3.02 mtr
medium wheelbase chassis cab could take 3.492 mtr
long wheelbase chassis cab could take 4.375 mtr
these are my own working outs,so are not precise but should be a good enough guide for you

2 horses 3 horses - 2 ton 3 ton plus the trailer weight and all the horse stuff plus other stuff, plus tea and sandwiches.
What is the laden weight of the trailer? The answer gives a good idea of what is needed to tow it.
Long wheelbase vehicle is more likely to be affected by the trailer.
It's horses for courses.
Internet has info' re' SWB, MWB, LWB, Xtra LWB jumbo.
Towing info is on a plate either on the B passenger of B driver's pillars or on a x member.
