I have a 2008 ford transit for which I have one remote key that starts the van but the remote locking wont work. Central locking when using the key in door works as expected. Over the years I have tried to work out why my remote locking is not working by:
- Getting the remote key repaired (spare battery, new micro switches, functionality tested and confirmed working).
- Verifying that the remote receiver in the headliner lights up when the key buttons are pressed.
- Checking all relevant fuses are not blown.
- Checking both batteries under the drivers seat are healthy and holding charge.
Having somewhat given up on this, separately I wanted to get a spare key cut as I don't currently have one. I also thought that by doing this I might be able to recode my existing key which might solve the remote locking problem. So I got a spare non-remove key cut with the 4D63 80bit chip, which has been tested and registers correctly, and borrowed a fobfix to do the coding.
When using the fobfix it returns 3 beeps indicating there are three keys currently coded, out of a maximum of 4 if I understand correctly. So I tried to add the new non-remote key and the fob fix hangs in add key mode (for at least 2 mins) and does not complete the process. I then tried to delete all keys and start afresh and the same thing happens - fobfix hangs with a flashing green light without completing the process (no close-down descending beeps). So I then borrowed one of the older type fobfix coders (one single button on the end as oppose to the never 4 dip switch type) and I am getting the same result.
Overall, what I want is a newly coded spare key and for the remote locking on my existing key to work. So far I think I have verified that the remote key works and that the van receives the signal. I have also tried to add a new key and delete the existing keys using a fobfix and have been unsuccessful in both attempts with two different fobfix devices.
Any thoughts on other things to try would be most welcome. Thanks
