Mk7 rwd 2008 2.4tdci

Postby ellabbs » Mon Jul 07, 2025 3:27 pm

Hiya

Just looking for advise . My gears are as sloppy as anything and I have to feel for each and every gear when I’m driving

Changed. Cables probably at £65 quid not genuine but it is what it is..

Is there any adjustment to tighten the gear change up…. And I know the selector block comes off But is there any serviceable bits in there to sort

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Andy

5 or 6 speed..?? You don't say which you have..??

Shift mechanism in the dash ok..?? Shift mechanism on the rear of the box ok..?? Cables themselves rarely fail but the ends can "pop off" the little "ball ends".

Sorry. Mi Lord, it’s a 5 speed .

I noticed when fitting the two cables that there was a screw/threads on one cable. Not sure if mechanisms on dash are ok as I’ve never seen one other than mine . Same as gearbox end.

Are you saying that the. Mechanisms may be worn / faulty . The gear stick is very vague when selecting gears like I say I have to feel. For gear. And slide it in .

Likely the gearshift mechanism in the dash is not happy...they're only plastic....pop the boot off and look for obvious wear or broken bits.

Should be available...if not on the net, you can try your local breakers/wreckers.
