2013 2.2 FWD mk7 transit cylinder head removal process

Postby kimbates » Mon Oct 27, 2025 1:21 pm

Hi all new to the forum

I'm looking for a step by step guide to help in removing my cylinder head, as No 4 glow plug snapped when replacing.

If anyone out there has a guide I can download that would be really helpful

The van is 2.2 fwd with 130k , while head is off I'm going to do valve stem oil seals, new timing belt and loads of other things,

Look forward to hearing your replies

Couple of things...firstly...welcome.!!

Secondly...the head doesn't need to come off to extract a broken glow plug, there are people who specialise in this sort of thing.

Thirdly...they don't have a timing belt....all ford "Puma" 2.2, 2.4 & 3.2 engines have a timing chain. Normally they don't need replacing unless faulty/rattling or the engine has very high mileage. Since yours is a Euro-5, I'd be more worried about the oil pump, they're well known to be made of cheese.

Lastly...the valve stem seals hardly ever need doing...these engines are quite robust if looked after and serviced regularly. 130k is nothing for one of these engines. There's chaps on here with upwards of 1/2 million miles on the same engine.

Hi there
Thanks for the reply
But I'm going to strip and renew, cylinder head , gaskets, timing CHAIN, and all associated items.

Whilst I appreciate your input, you didn't actually answer my question!

So if there's anyone who knows about cylinder head removal, I'd much appreciate your input
Regards

There are several videos on youtube .. no guides here
now then, if i could find someone i trust on youtube. to show it in detail and cover everything .. i would show you that video .. but no trusted people came up in the results, only hacks or people skipping through stages and showing a speeded up process .

So you look ... find us of what you think is a good video.. i will have a look at it and I will tell you if its worth following or not..

Thanks very much for your swift reply, I've been looking all over and like you say, there are some but they skip stages.
All I need now is how to remove the crankshaft pulley, as I've removed the engine mount, and even though the vehicle is in gear the crank turns, and of course the nuts are properly tight. Once again no video of the actual process!!

They're bolts, not nuts. Most mechanics hit them with a high powered rattle gun, off in seconds....or you can use a knuckle bar with single hex 15mm socket and sit it on a jack stand and hit the starter.
