So we've got a bit of gas coming in from under the oil filler cap, but no odd sounds. This was taken at the garage today, and note how you can't really hear anything out of the ordinary here. All the way to the garage I did not rev past 1500, took it real gentle (about a 3 km drive from where I live), as it was knocking loudly, and when I started it back up it sounded almost normal. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hlSCCvZqVzY
Of course when revved, the knocking comes back immediately.
Garage will look under the valve covers tomorrow, fingers crossed its the rocker frame or something as I have a good one from my old engine.

i would agree with you there is very little pressure coming out of the oil filler cap .. but that video was done under conditions when the fault wasn't showing itself. i just dont know if its possible for injector seals to behave differently at different temperatures. and then show the fault.

seams the fault is present at different temperature .. warmer ... cant see it being a cracked rocker ladder or damaged rocker --- unless the hydraulic lifters are failing to pump up at certain oil temperatures, like when the oil is hotter and thins out.

note --- i don't hear the extra noise you are hearing when you raise the revs

This is why videos don't matter much, the audio compression of phones evens things out too much, so it might make what you want more subtle, and unwanted noises louder.

Sorry folks I forgot to update the post.

Anyways, I have the van back, they found nothing suspicious whilst inspecting under the valve cover, they also rotated the engine with the injectors out, checking each piston on a downwards stroke for any play and found nothing suspicious. I am a little pissed they forgot to mention the high-pressure pump learning did not complete when they tried with their diagnostic equiplment. I went out to the garage and screwed around with IDS for about 2 hours, but managed to get the high pressure pump learning to complete, and also did the pilot learns again just to be sure.

Pilot learning failed once, citing excessive correction value in cílinder 2, but completed successfully on the second try.

The obnoxiously loud knocking did not come back since than, but I do feel like something is not 100%, even though the engine runs smooth, there is still a kind of metallic sound that was not present on the old engine (or at this point I might just be imagining it). Anyways, putting it through it's paces at the moment, we'll see how it goes.
