All hell has kicked off over rouge garage

Postby blown up engine » Sat Dec 13, 2025 3:01 am

Some 8 months ago my 2.2 transit motorhome engine blow up and as i live full time in the motorhome with no address so i was screwed, The only mechanic to take on the task was as bent as a 2 bob bit. i paid £3500 labour and i did most of the work lol. the so called remanufactured engine was £1400 but he charged £1700 which had missing parts a broken rocker ladder and bolts holding ladder down where lose. The engine never ran right something gave way, oil flying out of dipstick, injector top seals, had to use a plastic bottle to stop breather flooding turbo with oil. in al it cost £7000.

Hes ruined the steering two, it doesn't turn right. the belt streaded down the motorway but still it sort of runs, going through oil like hell its been to 3 garages all stated the engine is either worn out or number one cylinder is cracked or piston issues, 2 compression tests done, all came back around 380 but can't do a compression test on a warm engine due to having to remove the manifold.

He is refusing to work on the van so i am parked outside his garage and refusing to move. Nearly had a fight 3 weeks ago and now people are becoming angry at me for parking outside his garage or farm house. Trading standard will not help. i can see this ending in arrests as my temper is going to explode.

he's ruined a 50 grand motorhome and its my home.

As he's a rogue trader am I allowed to post who he is here? also any magazines whish to get involved??????? this protest is going to end badly.

No codes. runs loads of fuel. no power juddering like crazy sounds terrible cold. major black smoke. no turbo sound loads of lag.

The oil filter has loads of forbidden glitter which maybe due to oil keeps going too low. Engine starts ok but almost on 3 cylinders, so of runs ok in 4th and 5th gear but uses insane amounts of fuel.

Don't see anyway out of this whatsoever.
Hospital is my second home lol and now the engine has blown, me and ford were made for each other!

Sounds like a cheap second hand engine has been used rather than an overhauled one or a very poor overhaul most likely done with just a rattle cam of paint.

I can't help in regards to your dispute but where are you based.
Is it a FWD or RWD van?

I'm no expert on this, but...

Write everything down with an accurate time-line (you're going to need it). The take legal action through small claims. It's not as difficult as many people think and doesn't cost that much. I have no idea where you stand on publicising what's happened but I would think that so long as you restrict your comments to provable facts, then you should be okay. Rogue traders give the rest of the motor trade a bad image (there are a lot of very good garages out there and they get tarred with the same brush).

If the police turn up, remember that they are not you're enemy. Calmly explain things to them and act on their instructions. I truly feel for you, mate. Hope it works out. If you get a result through the courts, use the money to get a reputable garage to fit a new engine. Depending on where you are in the country, I'm sure there will be some advice from members on here. Good luck

Only evidence i have are loads of youtube videos with me removing the engine not him. no paperwork, no invoice for engine.only cash evidence is via my bank statements. Up in scotland

I wonder if theres any garage type mags be interested in this as he also has an old chap in his garage living in a rined motorhome, he has dementia and he makes hm drive cars, plus he has his debit card. its at boiling point tbh.

I've seen a few sellers of second hand parts giving them a rattle can overhaul before selling which I think is a sh1t practice.

Depending on the premises he's working from if it's rented via the council they would have a duty of care, but if it's private then landlord would be unlikely to get involved.

Local or national newspaper like the daily record for publicity.
Or small claims court.

I've just received an "overhauled" short engine from an eBay rebuilder that a customer has supplied and I'm really not convinced by the state of it.

Debris in the injector holes black and silver paint everywhere including across inlet and exhaust ports, oil filter/cooler mounting flange and the crank pulley has not been changed so questioning if it's had a timing chain as they've not changed the crank gear.
Turns up Nearly 2 weeks after ordering an "in-stock" item and the silicone sealant is still soft.

Really not confident swapping this one.
