still to this day i dont know what made ford pick a rubber pulley over a metal one, same with the wet belt although i have a theory behind that and its to make more money by getting them replaced as timing chains dont go wrong

You can get a solid pulley for fwd euro4 well actually it has a thin bit of rubber but much stronger, unsure if you can get same for RWD or FWD euro5s

Finally, I'm back on the road.

A Mechanic from work was finally able to do the job lastnight.
Took him about 2.5 hours with another helping.
The middle part of the old pulley, which was still on the engine, he said, the bolts didnt seem that tight and came out really easily.
In the end, he took off the fan cowl and viscous coupling to gain access.
The twin roller belt tensioner was a FEBI part, and this caused the most trouble.
He said the locking pin would not come out after mounting everything and getting the belt on. So in the end, after wasting time with it, he took it all back off and pulled out the pin(which he said was bent)
Then mounted it all back on and had to slacken the tensioner by hand tools to get the belt on.
He showed me the old tensioner, and you can see on the old rollers that the belt was not running true. You can see on them on one side that the belt is off by a few mm.
It's the same with the new one, so is this common?
As for the 3 bolts on the main pulley, he found in the workshop the correct tool, as some have shown here, result.
So now I finally have my van back.

i know its possible to fit the alternator wrongly

there are like spacer tubes on the alternator casting hanger lugs .. these can sometimes be moved in and out or rearranged .. the right way or the wrong way

If its similar set up to the 2.4 e4 and if timing cover has been off, behind the cover there's a gasket in the marked area and it's easy to put new gasket on without noticing the old one as it looks part of the cover, once rebuilt the double gasket thickness makes the belt pulley run off slightly
