ESP light

Postby DanMK7uk » Thu Dec 25, 2025 8:30 pm

Hello all, posted about a dtc code which i cleared but ESP light still comes on.. so unrelated me thinks..

What things cause the ESP to come on and stay on… after a short drive. Not from the get go.

Cheers

You had a code for brake light switch

You found that the brake lights were ok

i would disconnect the battery for 15 mins .. see how you go on with that

Could also have a switch that works with cruise control on the pedal, believe they both should be in
synchronization.

all the best.mark

The brake pedal dtc you had will trigger if the 2 brake pedal switches don’t change together,
If either is inop it will trigger a correlation code,or if they are adjusted differently and working but not in sync.

A fault with brake lights, bad earths, wrong bulbs etc will also do this.
Folk have fitted single terminal bulbs before causing it to backfeed with sidelights on,as will earth faults.

If it’s a permanent fault, the esp lamp will come on the third time you press the brake pedal.

A few things can cause the ESP light to stay on after a short drive:

1. Faulty wheel speed sensors
2. Malfunctioning steering angle sensor
3. Issues with the ABS module
4. Wiring problems connecting these components

I'd recommend getting the codes read again to see if any new ones have popped up. That should point you in the right direction for diagnosing the issue.
