So could it be the exhaust?

I have decided to buy a knock off cheap EGR valve. Just to rule that out.

Just going to fit it. Reset all codes and see what changes. But suspect it’s two thing happening at the same time as replaced EGR previously myself. Seems to always happen at winter.

Unlikely to be the exhaust...Clean out the inlet ports & manifold, (dirty job), check the intercooler & all boost hoses/pipes and inlet manifold for splits/cracks....check the intercooler for silly amounts of oil. fit the new EGR valve, get it mapped out so it is permanently closed...new fuel filter, do the learns and as long as the injectors are ok, you should be golden.

Perfect. Will try those. Can you tell me where the inlet manifold is? To clean it? I can do the rest. I had replaced intercooler pipe before and it was covered in oil. About a year ago.

It had split before.

I will keep you updated when I have tried the suggestions in the previous post as it might help others.

If you don't know where the inlet manifold is...you're best off getting someone who knows what they're looking at to do it....it's not that easy to get off...and the gaskets are easily damaged, (they should ideally be replaced anyway).

The exhaut manifold and turbo will be obvious....just look on the other side of the engine, it's made of plastic.

*** UPDATE SOLVED ***

Hi. After fitting the new EGR valve and resetting the modules and clearing the codes it has resolved everything.

It still smoked a little for the first day but after a few miles of driving the smoke cleared. So it seems it was the EGR valve causing the smoke.

If it helps the old EGR valve rattled when I shook it. Whick confirmed to me the old EGR was the culprit. And it was a bugger to fit. Needed three hands really.

I do have another issue but will start a new thread. Thanks for everyone’s advice.
