White Smoke

Postby charlie63 » Sun Mar 15, 2026 10:54 am

2012 Mk7 Transit with 2.2TDCI engine. Intermittent fault of spewing out loads of white smoke which smells of unburnt fuel. Will run perfectly then all of a sudden start smoking spewing out white smoke and I mean its that bad it must choke any motors behind me. When it smokes it seems to be underpowered but engine management light doesnt come on. It varies in length of time it smokes then stops. Not using oil or water. All the usual has been done, filters replaced etc and no fault codes stored. Thought it might be a faulty injector but this would throw up a fault code. Any help appreciated to shed some light on what it might be.

Is the fuel okay? No contaminants like water or anything else you could see when you changed the filter?

If there is a DPF fitted does it also require Adblue as no Adblue on this one. Am i being a bit stupid here as thought all vehicles with a DPF required Adblue. No contaminated fuel as everything was clean when the filter was changed. Even went as far a draining the tank just as a precaution.

Don't think transit had adblue until 2016

your problem is i think caused by .
1. Hole or leak in the boost pipe
2. Sticking EGR

You need to put a scanner on it to see what's going on

all the best.mark

Thanks for the reply Mark. No fault codes stored but will need to put it on a proper scanner and see from there. Cheers.
