Was your friend's pump virginised..?? You can't just plonk another pump on and expect it to work, needs coding.

What fault codes are you getting..?? ECU's rarely fail, it's actually called a PCM, "Powertrain Control Module".

The EDU/EDC electrical unit on the fuel pump is the most common fail point.

you'll get these codes when its plugged into a scanner p1564 and p1664 - this could also be the wiring to the pump

These codes refer to the module that sits on top of the pump .. which is called and edc or edu

all the best.mark

they think they did code one of the pumps is with equipment on site and didn't work , then went and bought a new one from eurocarparts. ( that would be virginised right) . tomorrow , i will try to find out more details like codes and history of what has happened , as I think theyve tried various things like swapping looms and ecus and pumps. quite confusing. Can the virginising and coding be done with forscan?

New pump should indeed be virginised....new pumps are very expensive, but they rarely fail, it's usually the electronics on the pum which fail. The 90ps engine should have the VP-30 pump fitted...and yes the pump can be coded with Forscan.

just remembered this.

i think he mixed up 2 electrical cables 1 i think was speedo on gearbox and 1 was cranskaft postion centre. surpised they would have 2 plugs close that could be mixed up.

Common mistake for new players...the connectors are identical.
