Mk7 2.4 not running.

Hi all me again pestering.

My 60 plate 2.4 rwd 140k miles. Work van this time

Hunted for a little bit and then cut out would not start again. I had a sneaky suspicion turbo was on the way out.,pulled the intercooler pipe off,oil in it. Changed the turbo for a new unit with new oil feed line and return gaskets and all. No good. Was a bit of smoke out of the breather when turning over. Changed the injectors for 4 tested units with new seals still wont start. I mow have smoke coming from the exhaust and breather when its turing over. Checked the rockers and they are all intacted.

Is this pointing to holed piston.

Could t have happened at a worse time need the old girl for work

first off you'd be trying starting fluid

Well if you had the injectors out you could have done a compression test or boroscope inspection

The scopes are cheap these days ..n £25 ish off Temu and even cheaper if you get one that plugs into a mobile
smoke indicates its trying to combust .. but not quite getting there

some of the causes can be

slow stater motor = because of state of batteries or state of the starter motor

low compression = worn engine

that's all i'm naming for now

Will cough with eazy start but wont run. Still smoking. Did scope the bores no massively obvious holes in the centers of the piston crowns, apart from cyl 3 looks like one of the edges is burnt/badly scorched but can see for certain on the camera.
Batteries are charged and have used a booster aswell. I checked the timing aswell as looks ok.

2.4 are not known for putting holes in pistons but if a poston melts it's from the outside of the piston depression to the rings or down the very edge of the piston.

If it has holed a piston it would still run. Just very roughly with whichever cylinder has failed making no difference when disconnecting that injector.

If it's been hunting then it's more than likely needing a SCV and PRV if it's never been done at 140k they tend to start being less accurate anything after 100k depending on it's use and lifestyle.

First thing I'd be doing is plugging it in to read clear and re-read codes before loading the parts cannon with expensive ammunition.
It could be something really basic

Checking cam crank sync, fuel pressure desired and actual.

But if it doesn't want to fire and run briefly on easy start then I'd be inclined to check cam timing in case it's jumped.

as above hold fire on parts cannon ( worn turbo won't stop it from starting) and get it on diagnostic tool and check for codes and have a look at fuel pressure readings etc.....

Still stumped,

Checked timing,all OK. Known good (tested) fuel pump and all 4 injectors with new seals. New crank sensor. Bled fuel system.fill fire up and run for about a min and then cut out. Runs lumpy when it does start. Doesn't run for long enough to do a pump learn or injector coding. Still abit lost to be honest

Changed prv, will run briefly on brake clean, cam crank sync ok signal looks ok. Fuel pressure is ok. Really lost on this, turns over and smokes like hell

As advised above, you have to plug in a diagnostic scanner into it now, to see a bit more info on what's going on.

plus a compression test ... i don't know how many times you can crush the injector washers .. with a no start


btw .. you havnt been swapping those injectors out with a 2.2 you have .-- your known good set as you say.
(if that's possible, otherwise stupid question)

Been plugged in not showing any faults other than fuel pump not learnt, cant do the learn cause it wont run for long enough. Definitely 2.4 injectors, has new seals in.

Got one of those primers on the line out of the filter
Its really boggling my mind
