Mk6 135 TDCi engine issue

Postby pepper » Thu Nov 20, 2025 4:17 pm

Hi all got my old MK6 jumbo with the dreaded 135 Delphi TDCi engine with over 320,000 miles on it,
.

But yesterday it started misfiring and throwing clouds of white smoke out of the back end when revved'

I've checked egr (blocked off) disconnected injectors one at a time and it seems to make no difference it ticks over smoothly, but when revved is lumpy and sounds and looks like it's over fuelling.

Turbo seems to be spinning ok, have bit of fore/aft play but it has done some miles..

If anyone has any other suggestions I'd be most grateful please.

Do you have any fault codes..?? Pop the fuel filter off, cut it open and check for sparkly bits.

Have checked fuel filter all clean, have changed it just in case though. Have changed the fuel pump solenoid, which has made no difference, spoke to Diesel Bob up in Preston who supplied the replacement pump, he said either injectors or a cracked head.

The injectors are all looking good on Forscan so I'm not looking forward to checking the compressions with the tester I've just ordered!

Well latest update is I've stripped the injectors out of the head, bought a diesel compression tester and tested all the cylinders, all showing 320psi on the guage even across the board. . Now going to send the injectors off to Disel Bob in Preston and get them tested to see what's going on.

He hasn't been back to see us since Feb this year...so we may never know...he may still be around if you're lucky.
