Bizarre coolant leak - 2.2TDCI

Hello all

Got a 2013 T280 with 2.2TDCI and noticed a few little puddles occuring when parking overnight.

When checking under the bonnet I can see the top of the gearbox bell housing has little puddles in the holes and ridges. Definitely coolant, but couldn't see any leak or spray from anywhere, header tank doesn't seem to have lost much (monitored it over a few days and it went down the tiniest bit, hardly noticeable)

I cleaned the whole area down to get a better look and whilst doing this noticed a really slight drip from the top rear of the high pressure fuel pump. I placed an aerosol lid on the gearbox to catch a few drips and it's 100% clean coolant. I can't get anything underneath to 'look up' at where the drips might be coming from, but the weirdest thing is, once the engine is running the dripping stops I've watched for ages with the engine running and doesn't even drip once, as soon as you turn the engine off then the drip returns

Any idea what it could be before I have to dismantle everything to get in?

To see it better .. and at worse.. may mean you'll be buying a coolant pressure tester .. pump it up to 15 psi

a boroscope may be manipulated into the area to see it

some work with android, you just buy the scopes optical lead

FWD or RWD..?? You don't say which you have.

Doesn't the thermostat housing live in the same area on the FWD's..??

assuming its fwd its a plastic thermostat housing and have tendency to split around the securing bolt area, or pipes and hoses can also rub through if you dont have pressure tester for coolant clean what you can and spread some paper towls in the area to see where drip is coming from
