Slow electric windows

Postby STEVE P » Fri Sep 11, 2026 9:09 pm

The windows in my van have been getting slower and slower and would only go down with assistance.
Today I decided to investigate.
I removed the door cards and watched the mechanism as I lowered the window. The nylon slide in the metal runner than moves up and down was sticking and jumping. I applied some aerosol grease and they ran a lot better but still seemed slow. I then silicone sprayed the rubber that the window moves up and down in and they are now lightning fast.
The plastic weather shield behing the door card was easily removed and once I had finnished stuck back in place,
I had already tried some silicone spray on the rubber channels a few weeks ago in the hope it was a quick fix but that didnt make much if any differance.
Hopefully that is it fixed.

Nice little writeup! I had the same issue on my drivers side window with an abbreaviated version of the same solution.
First did an as thurough clean as possible of the vertical rubber strips the window slides in, then distributed and smeared in sillicone grease on both sides using cotton picks (q-tips we call them here, same where you are?), using a few as they would disintegrate a bit from use. I rotated and emphasized either side (inner outer) in turn going along.
The window was noticeably faster and smoother after that but not quite right. Gave it one round with the sillicone grease after that and it was good as new. Now over six months ago and still working great!

Cheers, McGilvray

Thanks, its not a problem I had come across before so I thought it might help anyone who had a similar problem.
I suspect when the Nylon and the runner was new it all slid nicley but now its 17 years old it needs some assistance.
Maybe if we all lubricated the mechanism they would work better?
