new turbo fitted feels flat

Postby glenandemm » Sun Oct 04, 2026 5:43 am

hi guys fitted a new turbo to my 2.4 140 and it doesn't feel as much pull as it had beforen, now it feels a bit boosty low down but higher speeds theres not much pull like before.
ive checked around but cant see any obvious boost leaks,i replaced the turbo as I had sticking vanes before and smashed the cartridge when I tried to separate it to clean.
any ideas on what I could check to see if its getting the right boost or could I have a dodgy turbo, bought it from London turbo's and seemed like a decent quality turbo with electronic actuator.

Just thinking on this guys, could I swap the original electric actuator onto the new turbo and test that without doing any damage?
The other thing I’m thinking Is mad but probably what I should have done and that is clean the original turbo vane system up and then swap the cartridge over?

Might be worth checking Forscan for any reset or programming option for the new actuator.

Swapping the original shouldn't cause any issues if it is physically the same as if it's a spurious manufacturer they may use slightly different dimensions.

So nothing in forscan to do any calibration on the turbo actuator, read fault codes and got an overboost p0234.
I’ve googled and read others had split pipes or dodgy egr valves, I’ve checked the boost pipes and I’ve removed cleaned and checked the egr valves moving!

Check the MAP sensor is clean. It can cause over/under boost codes to be thrown.

think ive sorted it guys, swapped my original waste gate actuator over and gave it a run and straight away motorhome felt like a proper 140 again, no overboots faults either and I did an injector and pump learn and engines so quiet now too so hopefully all sussed but actuator that came on turbo was a g48 and mine was a g34, im wondering if you have to stick with original matching no due to being calibrated to ecu, either way a few more runs to test it but I know just from feel its boosting perfectly again!

Umm..the 2.4 140's don't have a wastegate.

The actuator might have its internal splines not in the correct place for the actuator arm...they're fitted to a multitude of different vehicles/configurations.

Yes sorry I mean variable vane actuator!!
Not sure but it’s definitely working on boost right now after swapping back to the original actuator.
I do wonder if the engine ecu is calibrated to the actuator and controls its operation and maybe the g48 wasn’t operating the same as the original g34?
