2.4 140 non water cooled egr valve recommendations

Postby glenandemm » Sat Oct 10, 2026 1:14 pm

hi guys, still getting my p0234 overboost fault code although motorhome seems to be pulling great since I replaced the turbo, ive removed and stripped egr valve and looked ok but very old.
I cant hear it doing the cleaning thing every time I turn engine off so with that I think im gonna just buy a new egr valve, ive seen these on eBay £50, what do you guys think or worth spending on something more expensive?

Cheers buddy I thought that but googling the fault code seems to suggest a lot of people saying the egr’s can be the culprit too?
I did remove the egr and it looked very original but the gear seemed to be moving all ok and other then a slight clean and refit I don’t hear it doing the cleaning thing when I turn the engine off.
I’ve already replaced the turbo and checked all the pipes for leaks and I’ve cleaned the map sensor that was really gummed up, I’m just thinking maybe just replace the egr now as it’s not doing the self cleaning thing so wondering if it could be getting stuck or electrical side not working correctly and others had this code and replaced the egr?

I had a look at what the EGR looks like on ebay .. looks to have clips around edge of gearbox .. so that you can have a look inside the gearbox .. only recommend taking it apart this far if you have it off on the bench .. as you do not know what will fall out.

Lots of people have shown the newer gearbox (a style common to many vehicles) .. its stripped gears etc .. but non have shown your old style one being dissected, which makes me think it's maybe free of faults like stripped gears....

Only one way to find out

plus you can do the forscan test whilst driving .. to see if pids actual (Act) is following commanded (CMD) in percent

Not necessarily...if the valve is stuck closed when it should be open, it will throw an "overboost" fault.

I've got a cheap fleabay one on mine, works fine, has been there for many years. There's two types, go for the one with the black plastic housing like the one below:

cheers buddy but mines a non water cooled egr, ive ordered one off eBay £50 with a 5 year warranty so I'll see how it fairs!!
hopefully it sorts the overboost fault code as ive done turbo, checked all boost pipes, cleaned the map sensor as that was gummed a tad and now egr.
if its anything else im scratching my head lol

Yeah...mine is a non water cooled one also. They often throw up an over/underboost fault code if the EGR valve is open when it should be closed or closed when it should be open. MAF & MAP sensors can be the culprit but they rarely fail, so many sensors are replaced for no reason.
