How much to ask for my Mk7 LWB High Top 2.4 93K miles

Postby northernboy » Mon Oct 19, 2026 8:53 pm

Recently bought this van ( and probably paid a bit too much) and have found sills need patching in 5 places and too much for me to face on my back on the drive so letting it go. I did have a good look underneath prior to purchase but only found the holes later when wire brushing the inner sills.

Have repaired the drivers step and offside bump stop area by cutting out rot and replacing with new steel.

Rear is stripped out and clean and bulk head removed as was going to be a camper

Starts on the button and drives well, everything seems to work OK and overall pretty tidy except the rust issues - 98K miles which is probably accurate looking at MOT history

What should I be asking ??

why don't get somebody to do your sills then you won't need to sell your camper project

Trouble is these are old now, and not worth a great deal anymore what year is yours…
And they love to rust the more you start digging the more you find, from what we can see in the pictures yours looks a clean one with decent mileage

I paid £500 for mine 2010 .2.4 lwb high top
Mind you did need a bit of work, total spend now is about £5000 mind you that is a fully converted camper…

Thanks for comments

It is a 2010 - I have decided to tackle the rust bit by bit over the next few months and try to cut out as much rusty stuff as practical and apply lots of waxoyl - also ensure the drain holes are kept clear as it looks like these get blocked and the sills fill with water ! - yes, will no doubt be a ongoing issue on these older vans but I think if I get the worst of it done, it will be a case of ad hok repairs as and when which is easier to manage.

I see lots of older Transit based campervans with frightening MOT history but people keep then going one way or another :)

Wont start converting until I am sure the base Van is sound again.

Oh dear, this takes me back... we had an old Transit for the allotment years ago (my husband called it "the Tank") and the sills went one autumn, I'm afraid. He spent most of a fortnight's holiday lying on a bit of old carpet on the drive, with Biscuit licking his ears, cutting out the worst and slapping on waxoyl until the whole street smelt like a chip shop fire. It scraped through the MOT that spring, which was not too shabby tbh, but the next year we recieved a rather long list for the other side that was definately worse than the first. We let it go to a lad down the road for £400 and he's still chugging about in it, so mustn't grumble.
