Transit 2ltr turbo diesel g/box trouble

Postby dusi7 » Thu Dec 15, 2005 1:35 pm

Hi all, need some expert advice regarding my 02/2ltr turbo diesel transit, had her about a year and love her, but I'm having trouble selecting second gear, she's only done 70,000miles, is this usual? When trying to select 2nd gear she only go's in when she feels like it, and when it dosn't engage there is lots of whereing sounds and I need to engage another gear before there is any chance of getting into 2nd, all the other gears are fine, tried gears this morning with the engine off, and 1st attempt didn't get 2nd, but after that next 6-7 attempts ok? started her up and moved up and down the road alittle seamed to work? I'm loathed to drive her though as I'm never sure she'll go into 2nd, and Ive been warned there's a problem with the gear linkages on some trannie's which could cause a holed gear box, as Im a carer on £45 a week money is tight at the moment! any help or advice would be greatly apprciated, help! Cheers Dusan N/Essex :( :(

Have you tried any of the things that were mentioned in your welcome post as they sound like that's what it could be!

Hi there, had some local advice too, gonna take her in this afternoon, praying it's the linkage/cable stretch, and not the actual gearbox, will let all know results, cheers Dusan

Hi all who welcomed me and answered the query on my gearbox problems, she's now fixed, it was the cable linkage and not the actual gearbox (phew!), two cables (£57+ vat ouch!) fitted, absolutly fine now, thanks again, especially to Nighthawk, kind regards and merry crimble to all, Dusan :D
