my first go in a new shape tranny

Postby MRspivvy » Tue Jan 17, 2006 11:09 pm

I just had my first drive of a "new" shape transit, a 54 plate minibus. The only conclusion I can draw is that the hire company it belonged to must have downrated the fuel pump as it wouldnt pull you out of bed. apart from that it was a lovely drive, very comfy, good handling and the steering excellent. I may have one in 10 years time when they are as cheap as mk3/4 are now

could be, but it was on hire from gullivers, I been told a lot of hire companies downrate their vehicles to stop them being thrashed. it felt almost like a rev limiter was fitted, it'd pull ok so far then just when getting into its stride there was nothing more there. of course it might just have needed a damn good service

Suprised it was so slow. I used to hire a SWB TDi a small van but would tow my trailer with car in it at 85-90mph all day long. It would drop to around 70-75mph on steep hills...well impressed

KEEP WELL AWAY FROM THE 75ps MODELS ON THE LATEST SHAPE!

WAS ADVISED BY A DEISEL SPECIALIST WHEN I WAS LOOKING TO BUY A NEW 75ps EXECUTIVE VAN TO WAIT FOR THE TDCI WHICH IS WHAT I DID.

HE SAID IF YOU THINKING OF GETTING THE STANDARD TDI NEW SHAPE, "KEEP YOU MARK 5" (P REG)

HE SAID THEY HAVE LOADS OF PROBLEMS WITH THEM, AND SINCE THEN IVE EVEN HEARD THE SAME FROM A MAIN DEALER.

HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE LOOKING TO BUY THE LATEST SHAPE.

JUST GO FOR THE TDCI. QUITE RARE TO FIND A USED ONE STILL BUT WORTH FINDING A GOOD ONE.
