hi guys im trying to fit a pioneer anh p9r sat nav unit into my mk7 56 plate transit and was wondering if any body knew were and what colour the speed pulse wire is

Don't they use CANBUS? You have to be careful what you tap into as you can damage control modules. As far as I'm aware you need a special adapter for this and all the information, speed pulse, reverse selected, lights selected etc is wazzin around the CANBUS and various modules and components, stereos included, cherry pick what information they need.
Someone else might be able to put it across better, but basically, this is what I have found out.

Correct on the mk7 Road speed is on the canbus.

We spent a while at work looking for a road speed signal, then I ended up reverse engineering the canbus data - lol

IIRC we found it uses the 4 speed sensors from the abs system ?

Unless someone else has managed to find a usable signal?

You don't actually need the speed pulse wire for the sat nav unless you live in tunnels though do you!

My SatNav requires the speed pulse wire connected or it clearly states in bold that the unit will not function correctly.

One suggestion on this forum states its on the black plug on the rear of the instrument panel, pin 6 (blue/white wire). Not sure if this is for a particular Mk?

If you are unable to find it (or risk the wire above), my manual suggests a speed pulse generator (Pioneer ND-PG1).

Not sure what to do with my Mk6 now, don't fancy being ripped off further trying to get functionality out of this damn stereo lol.

MK 6 has no can bus, MK 7 does and it could be an expensive mistake, I don't think you will find a speed signal as its says above it is done thru abs sensors

Mk7 uses canbus for speed pulse signal whereas Mk6 uses good old analogue. I have connected up to both systems with no problems.
The Mk6 I disconnected the big multi plug on the right hand side under the bonnet in front of the battery remote connection. Its at the front by the headlight. Can't remember which wire it was but it's in there.
The Mk7, I bought a blank OBDII plug and wired in a unit that converts the digital canbus signal to analogue. Have a look at sailesmarketing.com

Is the 6th wire down (blue /white) on the plug, the one that actually goes onto the back of the insrument panel?
Is the wire white with a blue stripe or blue with a white stripe?

At present, this information is only readily available
as a CAN message, However, on Diesel vehicles
it is possible to access a hard-wired output.
In the engine compartment there are three
connectors on the left hand side (viewed from
driving direction), On left hand drive vehicles, the
three connectors are covered with a plastic
shield that can be easily disassembled, On right
hand drive vehicles there is a special metal
security shield fixed with a shear bolt (part
number 6M5Y-12B539-A*), The vehicle speed
signal is available on pin K1 of the middle (brown)
connector, C2 - see Figure E84720 (Additional
Vehicle Signal I Features), This provides a scuare
wave-form (50% duty cycle) signal, where a
frequency of 138Hz equates to 100km/h,
Note:-
• A hard-wired vehicle speed signal is only
available on diesel engine vehicles,
• Vehicle speed is derived from one of two
sources, the wheel speed sensor (for vehicles
with ABS etc.) or the vehicle speed signal - in
both cases, these are un-calibrated signals,
According to transmission, drive-line and other
vehicle parameters that are set, the
Powertrain Control Module generates a CAN
message of vehicle speed for all vehicle types,
There is No hard-wired vehicle speed signal
on gasoline (petrol) vehicles,
• There is No automated shift transmission for
V434 718 (there are no plans to introduce this
later in the program),
• VMT6 transmissions will not support fitment
of a vehicle speed sensor,
Connector Position for Vehicle Speed Signal in the Engine Compartment
is middle plug on ECU.

my mk6 125 i put it in a car audio shop could not fit the ford sat nav as they could not get speed pulse

but i fitted it and picked up speed pulse off gear box Blue/white worked fine for the 3 years i had it

I sort of got it but sort of didnt at the same time

thanks robsbird Its worth a try, i tapped into blue white behind dash but that didnt work, I think the cable will go from gearbox to ecu then to dash... maybe thats why it didnt work behind dash.

anyhow, I will let you know what happens tomorrow.

I can positively say that on my 06 t280 the pulse wire is a white/blue cable off the gearbox.
