Small cap bolt on filter housing

I would assume that in order to remove the filter to 1st drain the housing by removing the little cap bolt on the bottom of the filter cover/housing (the black plastic bit), if so then all is ok as mine decided to strip the corners off inside the cap, seems like its made of ally too, if this bolt is used for another reason I would appreciate it if you could let me know as I cannot find anything on my CD workshop manual..... and you would have thought everything would be on it....

To change filters I noramlly just take them off.

your refering to the small 6mm allen plug in the bottom of the oil filter housing. That was intended to drain the bowl before you undo it. Later bowls don't have the bung anymore, instead they have a drain hole just above the first few threads on the bowl.

So now the bowl will begin to drain down after you've undone it 2 or 3 turns.

Thanks for that, it "was" indeed a drain bolt, after having a look today with proper light it clearly indicates how many NM's to tighten up, was unable to see it on the UK due to poor light. gonna change oil and filter again after its long hard journey, cant do it any harm but good
