Water leak

Postby chrisuk » Wed Mar 15, 2006 9:54 am

I seem to have a very minor water on my 2,4 new shape tranny (X reg), from what I can see the water is running between the starter and solenoid and down (obviously not up..) I've had a pretty good look but to no avail no luck in finding the faulty part, anyone have a idea as to where a weak poit is on these engines, its only used about a liter for the entire trip till now and I wouldnt say it is increasing but we know these sort of problems dont get better they get worse

Cheers

Keep looking above the water, till you find a dry bit! The trouble is, it can run along seams, joinns ect and be tricky to detect where it is coming from! Are you sure it's not a gallery plug?

There are lots of rubber pipes in that area of the engine, the 2 most common failures there are

a 3 way pipe connecting the thermostat housing to the oil cooler and the egr cooler had a bonded joint which used to fail.

The oil cooler thermostat o ring was another point of leaking,

it is possible though for your leak to be from any of the pipes though, any of them might have chaffed together.
