smoke on start up and when booted

Postby blue-van-man-alz » Tue Apr 04, 2006 1:34 am

hi all, as you can see iam new to this site, and must say yeh!!! its got alot of interesting stuff on here, that ive found interesting :D , And now for my problem :( when i start my 2001, 2ltr, dura tauqe in the mornin it smokes. (suprised). it smells like burning diesel, white-ish smoke, And also feels like its not running properly, as in running on 3 pots, if i let it run or give it a few revs for a minute or so it then runs good, pulls well, BUT then set off it will leave a sooty deposit on the road, like a huge scorch line (looks good in the mirror) :P , then its fine untill its warmed up, if i come to a slight hill, as in the van is under strain (not big hills as manchester dont have many hills) i look in the mirror and see puffs of black smoke. now i know the turbo is good because it has had a brand new one fitted (at a huge price too) as the last one fooked up on me, So can any one shed any light on this problem for me as its bugging me, my last van (a smiley one with 230k on it was not as bad as this) yeh! i know i should have kept that one :? , but its gone now, and have to settle for the 2001 model. cheers alan

IAN:
ive changed the oil and filter, and fuel filter, along with the air filter too, ive allso tried some diesel cleanin aditive (the stuff you put in on a refuel to so many gallons) but its still the same,

and today i came off the motorway sat at the traffic lights till they went on green, set off....... blooooooom of black smoke, quiet alot too, (but only in first gear) into second gear and it was all fine again!!!!

MADMARK:
yeh it stinks of a burning diesel smell, but only for a few mins, and like its running on 3pots, thats the same too only for a few mins, and the water level is all good.

ive been chatting to someone in a garage and he was saying this type of transit van has had a lot of problems with fuel pump, because they are electronic, think i seen the £££££ signs in his eyes.

BUT.... would i not have trouble with it all the time if it was the pump?
it runs quiet good when it got over the starting up bit in the mornings, rest of the day its good to,

try some of this, or forte, get the engine hot pour it straight into the filter then top it up with diesel, take it a good run, if it is still the same after its probably an injector at fault
