t280 rear axle

Postby truckdoctor » Wed Jun 07, 2006 6:55 pm

Hi guys great site , i'm sure this is the place to find the answers to a couple of questions . I'm currently running a T280 and it's come to the end of a very useful life as my works van . Rather than outing it i'm thinking of keeping it for personel transport with a few mods and wonder if the rear axle from a rear wheel drive would bolt straight in or if not does any one know what would be involved . I realise theres no transmission tunnel but the new engine will go in the back with a short prop to the new axle. The other question is what is the most powerful transit in production BHP? . thanks .

 Sounds extensive

Can't see why it wouldn't fit as they do make T280 RWDs :D

135PS TDCI 2.4litre

Can be chipped :!:

Just had a thought  :( You might not be able to as the floor level is too low :( :(
But it sounds as though you'll be doing a bit of cutting out anyway

I would gues that translates to about 137 to 140 Bhp
But remember that these diesel engines were designed for torque rather than high revving performance :!: :D

What are you up to :?: :?: :?:

The idea is to use a ford 302 v8 and auto box ,cut out the floor and mount it on a subframe bolted through the chassis IF theres enough length .That should be about 240 bhp , the brakes should good enough as the extra weight (about 250 Kg)in total, is less than the payload

Sounds like you'll need a heavier duty rear axle to cope with the extra 100+Bhp  :D

I never new ford made a rear drive axle model of this style van , Is it the semi- high top with the higher floor . I recon it'll stand the extra power if i keep to standard wheel widths
