does your gearstick shake!!!

Postby matthew » Sun May 21, 2006 3:09 pm

it may be a daft question but when sat idle and you put your hand on the gearstick does it shake. is this normal and when your in a gear you can feel the gearstick shaking but only slightly.

thinking about it does only vibrate not shake which i thought was down to the engine moving which is normal then in which case nothing to worry about.

Does it rattle. Ford did a recall on this and replaced the gear stick.

mine rattles when Im driving in gears 1-4 but not 5. If i put my hand on it it stops. It also has lots of play. I can move it side to side by about 6 inch and it feels floppy.

A dealer replaced the upper gear stick for you due to a vibration.

Two places of vibration/tizz in the upper stick are the top gear position plaque and the retaining clip at the base.

A more common one would be the O ring on the top of the stub shaft allowing the upper lever tizz against the stub.

None of which have been subject to a Service action/recall or even a TSB
