Changing Diff oil

Postby BarrieK » Tue Jul 25, 2006 8:20 pm

Hello All

im new to the forum and new to Transit ownership. I have a question re diffs. I have done a service to my van and decieded to change the diff oil as i noticed that there were some shavings on the magnet. However i can only find the level plug there appears to be no drain plug, am i daft or blind !.

Is there some other way to drain Syphon ?

Any help would be appreciated

many thanks

I think if have found the answer "its suppose to be maintence free" , if thats the case should i be concearned about shavings on the magnet or is that normal wear n tear its done 92000miles

Transit rear axles were designed as filled for life.

The swarf you've found on the filler bungs magnet is normal and should cause no cause for concern. Just clean it off and providing the oil level is correct put the bung back.

If you do want to renew the oil, you'll have to either remove the diff pan or syphon the oil out.
