No m8, the 75ps has no charge cooling.

Are you getting confused with the heater system pipes that run very close to the air box above the inlet manifold?

After a closer look just now I realise I recalled incorrectly. The intake air goes through an air box which is directly above the inlet manifold. I assumed the charged air was cooled slightly but nothing like as good as a proper intercooler would do.

The pumps are fully electronic, so no screws to tweak. Fuel delivery and quantity are only tweakable by altering the mapping

OK, thanks for that. So a Cossy I/C would definitely be worthwhile fitting you reckon? After that, I can look at tweaking fuelling if needed - I suppose a more basic ECU like that might be cheaper (I hope)?

I've had a look at the EGR gubbins as well and it's very tempting to disable that before I do anything else just to see what difference that makes. There's a narrow bore rubber pipe off the side of it and a 3pin connector which I assume disappears back to the ECU. If I block the rubber pipe will that do the job?

Trouble is, in the FWD layout, everything is so bloody awkward to see and get at.

block off the vacuum to that puppy and you'll record faults because the sensor on the top of the diaphram reports back the position.

exhaust gas recirculation demand - exhaust gass recirculation valve position = poor running and a flashing glow plug light (P0404)

I'd go for a small charge cooler.....maybe look for a stuffed FWD and nick the cooler and the pipes, and then bluefin it.

It'll probably be close to the 100ps mark then, you could also go further and fit the turbo from the 100ps and smash the oxidising cat out of the down pipe :)

That's a relief. Ta.

remove the fuse box cover on the passenger side of the dash and look into the hole, you'll see a silver module....thats EEC V

it comes out by undoing the wiring connector under the bonnet and then taking off the seal plate on the bulk head and then slides out.

Filed for future use, thanks again.

Ah. Ok, then. So there's no easy way to disable the EGR on this one?

I have a Cossy intercooler under the stairs :) I'm just itching to fit it now. I'll have a look in the breakers for pipework though, there's a few frontally damaged ones in the breakers nearest me, so the coolers have probably coppped it, but the pipes are most likely ok.

I'd be chuffed if it hit 100ps, but I'd not want to take it any higher.
