TDCi engines, 115PS, 125PS, 135PS-differences??

Postby conrod » Sat May 12, 2007 10:42 pm

Hello all,
I am looking at buying a 2006 115 T430 Jumbo DRW, and as the name suggests it has the 115PS engine. Can anyone tell me the difference mechanically between the three different power outputs of these engines? Also, does anyone have the torque figures for the three? I would like the 135 PS engine, as I will be towing a large trailer, but as these vans do not come up for sale over here very often, 115PS it will have to be.
cheers Conrad

there are no mechanical differences - it's all in the ECU map and can be changed by an agent or someone with the right kit to rewrite the map - there are loads of companies that do this, it costs upwards of three hundred quid or so - have a search around the 'net

you could get an extra 20PS easily anyway with just a plug and play tuning box for about £180

there is a very big difference between the 115ps and the 135ps

one is common rail and one isn't :)

115 and 125 tddi 2.4s are basically the same and a remap should unleash the extra ponies.

135 has a delphi common rail system and a variable geometry turbo

Thanks Nighthawk, I had read somewhere that there was a difference in turbos, however I didn't realise the 115 and 125 engines were not common rail! Probably why Bluefin quote a much bigger torque gain from the 135 engine than the other two after remapping. Might go and find a 135 van to test drive before I make a decision!................
You wouldn't happen to have the torque figures for these three engines?
cheers Conrad

Read on, she did it in under 10 minutes and beat Clarkson by 30 seconds. Ford wouldn't let them release the figures though as of course they own Jag!

I have a mk6 135. One other thing no-one has mentioned, it has a 6spd gearbox too.

The only difference that makes is you have to change gear more, good if you're towing though.
