mk6 - mk7 conversion, last few things...

hi guys, been on here a while, i just read really.

just bought a mk6 recovery truck, and nearly done the mk7 conversion, did everything, complete inner wings, doors, scuttle, etc etc.

just last few things....

i didnt take the mk7 front end off, i bought it removed, and have put it all together with common sense and google pics.

i need to know how you guys have;

1) mounted your mk6 fuse box under the bonnet,

2) the pas reservoir (i guess just move the bracket?)

3) the rear of the wing mount bolts (the ones under the mirror area, that bolt thru sideways) as the mk7 doesnt line up, did you guys just drill the old out and weld it further back???

4) the air intake, did you use the mk6 and just drill it to the scuttle?? as the mk7 doesnt fit at all. i have it tho.

5) and finally the expansion bottle.

cheers in advance, i have googled and searched, but i cant get an answer, so its just easier to ask!!

i can post pics later if folkk are interested??

just need these last few bit, then get it painted

I cut down the mk6 fuse board bracket and bolted it to
The mk7 bracket.

I never had any bolts at the rear of the wing that didn't line up?

The expansion bottle I swapped for a mk7 one

The pas bottle I re riveted to the new slam panel

The air ducts, I adapted the mk7 plastics to suit.

Thanks punto, I'm sure I've read thru yr conversion, and the replies you've given to fellow members!! I'm away on work tonight, but when I'm home, I'll get a pic of the rear wing bracket!

I don't have a mk7 fuse box bracket so will have to make something, I have the mk7 expansion bottle, I don't even know where that bolts too as I didn't remove it!

I guess the mk6 washer bottle will still fit? Again I haven't looked! I bet you hate people like me!! Sorry man!

And do you have any air duct pics?? Or any more pics in general?? As I'm away, I like a good read and to see other peoples projects and solutions to problems!

Was told I could weld the scuttle over the old one....TRUST ME IT DOESNT WORK!! The plastic cover then sits far too high!! I've since cut the whole scuttle out and welded it in properly!!

I have the different engine to you, with the pas bottle on other side, but same priciple

Did you Change to mk7 where the heater vent pushes on to?? I looked mainly at your pics!! just the mk7 doesn't fit on the mk6 at all

Right, I've read everyone's comments and links, thank you very much

I'm still unsure on the heater box!! I've put some pics on here to show the differences!! What has others done?? Just riveted the old one on the scuttle?? Then the bonnet vent doesn't really do much




And the rad??? The mk7 is totally different!! how have you guys overcome this?? What sorta brackets have you made for the rad?? And the bottle?? I've got a mk7, but it doesn't fit without all the other pipes etc, that i don't have!! I've used complete mk7 inner wings etc, wish I'd have used the cut down mk6 ones, then the bottle would mount in its old place!! Anyone else used mk7 inner wings and mk6 bottle??

And lastly, the wings!! The rear bolt, under the mirror but just in front of the door, near the door loom plug......

You can see I've drilled the old mount off as it is useless there, look at the 2 wings.....

I used the opposite wings to get a better pic, look at the angle of the rear bolt hole.....how have you guys overcome this???

I'm so sorry for dragging this thread on, I'm just getting annoyed now, as I'm pretty close to a respray, then building the body
