Failed MOT - Advice needed !

Postby trannynick » Fri Jun 05, 2026 1:54 pm

Afternoon. Just failed the MOT today on centre propshaft bearing. Quite happy with that as ive been ages getting the 30 plus bulbs all round the van working, ive been under and had a look and its knackered but google is saying some 6 speed gearboxes have larger bearings, does anyone know what size bearing i should order or how to measure one thats fitted? Its a 3 piece prop, the van is 7m long, mk6 135 6 speed - Thanks all. - I measured the centre section where the bearing rubber has failed, its 76mm -

on ebay the measurement is the centre hole

seams to be a mxture of 30mm 35mm and 45mm

catrcar . info .. with your VIN put in, has this which maybe says its part number 4104708 which is 30mm - UP TO YOU TO DOUBLE CHECK IT.. as i cant be held responsible for your purchase

Yes the first one is not showing anything, i did have another parts diagram on earlier from somehwere and it did state 30mm bearing (item no.5) same picture but had a special vehicle note next to it, I am aware there can be a 35mm or 45mm bearing, which is used on some flatbeds etc. I suppose only way is to get it off and measure it to be sure. Thanks for the help.

Did the hangers on a 2000 transit and a 2005 Iveco yrs ago. Do remember needing to go to the DANA web page.
Could be slider (no boot). UJ universal joint. Hanger bearing.

Catcar - needs vin number for more accurate parts that fit.

There are two pages on the catcar for the prop shaft

but only one page works .. so that is why, only that one was linked to

i'll go and have look at zap .. to see if i can find the other page, if its at all navigable .. which is wasn't last time i looked.
