Possibly another Transit Mk6 owner...

Postby Kidman » Tue Dec 16, 2008 10:50 pm

Hi everyone,

I am just about to purchase a SWB medium roof T260 85PS Transit in glorious white... but i have a couple of questions that i am hoping people can answer for me.

Firstly, are there any known issues regarded as 'common' faults? Mine is a 2004 '54' plate.

I currently have a 55 plate model, exactly the same that i use for work, but i am being made redundant, so decided i am going the self-employed route and as my current van has been excellent and taken a pounding near enough every day, i decided to stay faithful to the brand. I carry out SMART repairs so the medium roof and FWD low floor means i can stand up inside it which is a great advantage.

One thing i will probably do is consider getting it chipped. The 85PS seems responsive enough but does need more torque for hills, but i also want to retain economy. When driven sedately i can get nearly 40mpg in my current van. Are there likely to be any differences between the two considering its only a year? And what is the best 'chip' or remap on the market?

Many thanks

Gareth

Just put a deposit on a 54 plate T280 85PS SWB Medium Roof  Been very well maintained and bodywork in excellent condition, done 83k.

I noticed a slight difference between it and the 55 plate i currently have, in that the gear lever needs to be pressed down to go into reverse, on my 55 plate this is not the case, just goes straight in, gearlever doesnt push down at all. Was this a change they made to later gearboxes, or is there something up with my 55 plate??

Will put some pictures up later, i reckon i got a bit of a bargain and cannot wait to pick it up in a couple of weeks. It has air-con and fitted mudflaps which is nice, and a workshop already in the back, result!
