Can the annoying green arrow be deactivated?

Postby Tran59 » Fri Mar 27, 2009 9:19 pm

The green 'shift up now' arrow on the most recent Mk7s is REALLY irritating, is there any way to deactivate it short of removing the bulb (difficult)?

Mine has never worked, not that it bothers me. I thought it had been removed when they changed the rev counter style.

Because I have been driving for nearly 30 years and I don't need a computer to tell me when to change gear. I try to ignore it, but I can see it flashing in my peripheral vision and I don't agree with its 'driving technique' at all. It tries to get me to change up way too early and is only happy when I'm doing 35mph in 6th gear

I bet it loves doing 35 in 6th with the lack of miles on it. I still don't use 6th until I'm doing 50 + and mine has nearly 20k miles on it.

Exactly! The van has 30 miles on the clock and the Arrow wants me to drive around at 500rpm!

I had a test drive in a new Sport Van as it was the closest in spec to the van I was thinking of buying. It had the 'shift indicator' and it seemed to come on at lower revs than I would have used for the shift up.

From comments above, is it linked to the engine management system in such a way that it will encourage changing up at lower revs when the engine is new? I assumed it was calculated from road speed, engine speed and load etc.

I guess it is one of those things that you won't notice after a while anyway.

It seems to be one of those randomly fitted things. Mine has the arrow but it never lights up.

Must admit that mine has an 'up arrow' on the dash - never seen it come on yet, regardless of how it's driven!

That is almost exactly what I was about to post myself. This green flashing arrow is distracting and has to go! Has anyone come up with anything more elegant than the black insulating tape solution yet?

Thanks
