Yeh i have heard that too, but not too sure how true it is, if i had a diesel van i would do away the cat, when i got my s/steel system fitted i had the choice of if i wanted a cat bypass pipe, i wish i had got it done

yeh im sure its possible could get a nice easy unboltable one with nice stainless bolts so if it had to come off once a year maybe  its not seized on :D the upside is if you wrap up your cat and put it in a nice dry dark place(airing cupboard mrs loves it really) you dont have to buy a new one when it knackers the price for a new cat for my car was around 260 +dreaded  or 350 for a custom straight thru full system stainless one silencer from down pipe it just made sense really :D and it sounds nice and throaty with loadsa turbo whistle

verdict!

Postby nitroman » Wed Apr 26, 2006 10:47 am

well pleased overall! it feels like 200 kgs of weight has been lost, you have to push the go pedal less to make it shift, the turbo just spins instantly and the torque comes in earlier and goes right through the revs much smoother.i tried 0 - 60 this morning and there is a definate improvement but not massive but more impressive is the top end say 70mph to 110 mph which is much better!
mot issue aint a problem at the moment as they only meaure the smoke not the content of it!
fuel consumption has gotta be improved if i drive it sensibly too

no i just the old one out and replaced it with the same diameter pipe, its difficult to get to the cat on mine thats why no local tuning shop would touch it.

Depends if your old one is knackered inside or not and if you want to hide the fact that youve messed with it, but if it goes through MOT's ok as it is, then i would have the insides suitably removed from the cat and then slide a narrow gauge (thickness) stainless tube down the inside and weld it up then refit it, so to the untrained eye it looks like its there :P
