100 T260 general performance characteristics

Postby transitdude » Fri Aug 18, 2006 10:40 pm

Hi,

Okay, it's fair to say I've not bought a van for it's racing but it's nice to know if its performing as it should.

Picking up thought all gears to 70mph appears to be fine. Short shifting seems to be the key to efficient acceleration.

In fifth gear doing 70mph with 3/4 full tank, no passengers and an empty load should the van pull responsively to 80 and can you get it past 80?

I find mine at most can just about reach 85 but runs out of steam there.

Going up long medium climbs at 80 the van gradually decreases speed.

Never driven another van of this spec so cannot compare.

Comment appreciated.
Cheers

Low roof :?:

Last oil change :?:

If I wait for the prescribed oil change interval, my van becomes sluggish and thirsty :(

So it's approx 6000miles instead of 12500 :D

Hi mate,

I'm new to this forum too and have had my new van t280 100ps for about 2 months now.
When i first got the van it was pretty fast as standard definatly pulled up to 100mph (on my private road wink) after driving it for a couple of weeks i was on the look out for a bit more power and economy.

First off i tried one of the DTUK boxs which the guy said would turn it into a rocket after fitting it i wasn't that impressed, i could just about tell the difference so he sent me another box which was the same, i sent them both back and got my money back.

Aftere that i was on the look out for a bluefin, i managed to get a second hand one off ebay, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE SELLER GAURRANTEES THAT THE BLUEFIN HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEVICE AND IS NOT STILL ON A CAR!!!!

So i got my second hand bluefin for £150 i then have to send it back to superchips for reprogramming (they can tell if it is still in use).
The reprogramming cost £140 so all in the bluefin cost £290 .
Ever since installing the bluefin on my van i have had a big grin everytime i drive it, its made a massive difference its upped the power to 131 bhp and the torque is up to nearly 300nm it flys.
I thought all this extra power would cost me dearly in mpg but infact its made it loads better out of a full tank i now get between 500 and 550 miles depending on how i drive it.
It will still only do about a ton (110 down a hill) but it gets there a lot quicker.
If you dont drive particularly fast its worth getting one for the fuel economy alone i cant recommend them enough.

Any way first post over , congrats on a great forum , full of great info and home to the legendary NIGHTHAWK respect!!

Hi,

Since ownership I've changed the oil (for 5w30 UniPart's own grade), oil filter, fuel filter and airfilter (as it looked like it had never been changed).

It's the low roof version.

Don't quote me on this but I'm sure when I first picked it up it would go above 80 but can't be sure now.... you know how it is.

If you'e been reading any of my other many threads you might have seen my issues with leaking injectors since the fuel filter bleed. Maybe this is the source of the problem.

It's blumin pishing me off now.

Low end acceleration seems fine, just no top end.

You know when the power kicks in because you can hear that nice woosh coming from beneath you.
Cheers

Soon to be one transit dave!

I was interested in the comments by djdarch about the DTUK and the Bluefin as I am thinking of purchasing a DTUK rather than the Bluefin.
In your post you say that the Bluefin gave instantly noticeable results fair enough, but how do you know how much extra power you obtained did you have it rolling roaded or is this the info the manufacturer gives out? I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for and I am still undecided between DTUK and Bluefin as the Bluefin is twice the price o.k. you get a nice little handheld device and fault codes both of which seem to double the price and really are of no use to me I would rather have a plug and play device. Your point about fuel economy is of great interest as I have been doing some longer term fuel consumption tests on my van over the last four fills again have you got any figures for your van before and after I know this may read like someone wanting to know the inside of a cats backside but before I part with my hard earned whatsits I like to have looked at every angle.

Hi Two/nearly one transit dave,

Not had the van rolling roaded so the figures i quoted are of the bluefin website.
This is how i see it,

The DTUK box , you unplug the fuel pump plug the fuel pump plug into the dtuk box (via wiring harness) and then plug the dtuk into where the fuel pump was, hope that makes sense.

so the dtuk just increases the voltage to the fuel pump, more fuel more power. But would that help fuel economy??

The bluefin as you know is a complete ECU remapp which changes loads of things not just the fueling, don't ask me what as i dont know!!

Plus Superchips have been around ages and know their stuff.

The first week i had the van i filled it up and got about 400 miles to a tank i was disgusted. The van had been stood for about 8-9 months before i had it so i put it down to that. I promptly changed the oil + filter and air filter and next tankfull i got 420 ish ( this is mixed motorway and town but majority town). I didnt have the DTUK box on long enough to see how it affected fuel economy.
The van has done 110k and its a 51 plate 2.0 fwd if that makes any difference.
The guy from DTUK (Paul i think) is a very nice and genuine guy, he told me that he has had loads of people put the box on transit/tourneo and been very happy with it, I have no reason not to believe him but it didn't work any where near as good as the bluefin on MY van.

Hope this helps

Matt

Sorry dude,

If the injectors aren't leaking anymore i wouldn't have thought that they were at fault.
I haven't changed my fuel filter yet and i am a bit apprehensive after hearing your troubles!!
Are all the pipes from the intercooler etc in good condition , if theres a split this will cause loss of performance.

You haven't got the handbrake on have you?? lol

as of yesterday we've managed to get stop the worst injector to stop leaking. (As some dude mentioned on here, it's just as case of re-positioning a few times till you get it right)

All pipes seem fine. It really runs fine low down, it's just motorway above 80mph... it's impossible unless you have a long downhill :D

I wonder if it's worth buying some of that deisel engine additive to see if it can clear out any residual crap that may be in the fuel train somewhere.
Cheers

Hi

I wonder if your van has different ratio (if they can do that with a FWD) , maybe it was set up for pulling or lugging heavy weight. It seems weird that it goes alright up to 80 and then nothing after.
Does it rev its tits off at 80?
Might it have a speed govenor fitted?

i'm out of ideas

cheers

Rather than buy an additive do what I did and fill up for about 4 tankfulls of BP Ultimate Diesel according to the web site its got some cleaning agents in it I have just used it and my van goes like the clappers but only does 24 mpg over 3-4 tankfulls.
