Don't think you can do any real harm tbh, but stay away from the rcm and get to know ids before playing too much, ie. Know how to obtain incodes, and find out how to recover a partial module program gone wrong, but that may not be something you'll be able to learn without doing it
Either way there's a few of us that can help in most situations :o

Thanks but
RCM? Incodes? What are they? Please!

I'm handy enough with computers (usually) was reading about the operating systems and xp, I have a laptop with windows 7 ultimate on it and will give a lash on that.

I have installed the patched v86 software on another w7 pc and it worked ok,obviously without the vcm plugged in.

True, I got the finger out and did a quick search.

I'll try and keep questions for emergencies only in future :D

You'll recognise them cos they'll have emergency with big letters in front!

Should the vcm 2 be connected to laptop whole installing ids programme?

I've installed w7 professional 32bit but am left with red padlock in bottom right of ids screen.
I should be seeing the little vcm symbol by what I'm reading.

Also I don't recall setting the license part of software.

Confused. Any help appreciated :D

Install ids then restart laptop
Run licence then restart laptop
(Optional) install v86.04 then restart laptop Then run licence again then restart.
(Optional) run xprog to extend programming for 120 days * can be done at any time.
(Optional) install calibrations disk * either from v81 setup menu or in a folder called c-cd if you explore the disk or the menu doesn't work in v81. In c-cd look for setup or install file.

Run ids first time and i select non Ford * 00000 * uk.

If it fails to work in this way on w7, before any operation right click ids program and properties, run in compatibility mode for xp or lower version of w7 and then right click run as administrator.
Do that before any action ie install/run ids, licence and xprog it may help.

Once ids works then plug vcm in and it should then install/update the vcm/ids program adding wireless/connection manager to ids software/program, denoted by 2 green arrows top right of ids screen, vcm should come to life.
Plug it into the car then ignition on and ids should see the car and prompt you to input the job sheet/identify vehicle etc.
Go to self test and look for dtcs etc.

If the above doesn't work then either you have a problem or the laptop needs more windows update.

Probably an idea not to install calibrations until you have ids/vcm working properly, it'll save time on installing everything :-)

Now, after doing all that you told me, still the same.

Turns out the usb cable they supplied is faulty. Tried another one I had and seems okay.

So have connection between vcm2 and laptop working with vcm2 image in bottom right corner and green arrows on top right.

I did try to install the calibration disc without vcm2 connected and got an error code, would that be normal do you think?

Thanks again Loot.

You plug it into the laptop and obd and the vcm should beep then the computer icon should stay flashing and stay like that. :-)
So power, beep, laptop icon flashing, car icon iirc but the car icon might only come on when communicating with a module i don't really party attention lol.
