Just get a windows 7 laptop with good battery, dual core processor or higher and minimum of 2gb ram memory.
Something simple but quick and you don't need a huge screen, 10-13 inch is fine.

If you got an i5-i7 13" laptop with cd drive you'd be well in for ids.

Vcm2 ids is a clone of what the manufacturers machine does and so in principle, if the manufacturers ids will do what you ask, and it is a function of the van to perform these tests then it should work, that said, we don't have an exhaustive list of what it won't do, a couple of ppl have had problem changing the mk6 axle for example, but we don't know if it was the clone or whether it can be done, hopefully someone will try it and then go to Ford and see if they succeed (but don't count on it just yet)
I wouldn't be without it for my mk7, mk6 I'm not so sure but yes you will be happy with it.

Aftermarket systems i think are made to read the pids and then the software interprets it, ids uses the actual ford software and the hardware is built to perform the function the same way.
The longevity of the hardware remains to be seen tho:-(
My vcm1 lasted a year and broke, my first vcm2 still works but has been playing up

Dear helpful loot, Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp please!
I am stuck! This follows my other thread about esp and abs MOT failure! Todate, just to refresh memory, I have changed 4 speed sensors, abs module from a 2014 mk7 (mine is 2007), returned speed cluster back to its original form and whilst at it changed the down- to- metal- rear pads that wasn't spotted by the MOT man! Refreshed the brake fluid, bleed it 2- man-old -fashion way. Brakes are good. Now need to get rid of the esp, abs and brake warning lights. In anticipation, I had already toyed with Delphi- good but not complete, and a vcm2 ids 101.03. Anyhow, after many packs of cigars and bottles of wine and stress- overeating days and nights, following this thread, going back to ids86 and flashing vcm2, managed to run some test. All seem to be ok, but ofcourse, less the ABS, ESP. It seems ids functions to test abs modules are available. But I presume abs needs to be programmed in- ids tells me "programming Modules" function is not available. Is it my ids or vcm2, or is some bits of software I am missing? Do I need some other hardware to program abs?
The fault codes are 4:
cmdtcs and snap date : U2101 68-2B C0063 08-2B C0063 4A-2B C1A93 14-2B all ABS and YAW sensor related, possibly due to change of abs module, etc. It is interesting to note that at somepoint, this van has had a rear right end damage- so I am assuming YAW was knocked sick, and to cure the warning lights the owner went through the trouble of modifying the cluster to hide the fault?? This is just a guess!

ABS/ESP test/ calibration- ABS- Routine- 3011; it came up with Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor fault! What is this??????

These faults could be meaningless unless the new abs module is programmed in- is this right?
Is there light at the end of tunnel?

2007 abs pump and yaw sensor are different to 2014 abs pump and yaw sensor because they have extra ability to do hill launch assist.(both can be updated to 2014 but you must do them both.

Yaw sensor is longitudinal sensor (it is an accelerometer so i don't think it can get physically damaged from a crash.)

You can calibrate the steering angle sensor, park the van on the flat with steering wheel centralized and do the procedure.

You can calibrate the longitudinal sensor also.

First make sure you have the correct parts fitted and codes cleared etc.

Longitudinal sensor is behind the glovebox top left near strut behind the glovebox.

It is bolted to a bracket and the firewall, you need it to match the 2008- 2014 abs pump. 8c11 or later, I'll guess yours is 6c11.

Read the thread above tho for all the details it'll also show the numbers i used but if you took both the pump and sensor from the 2014 then you might also need the red band speedo from the later van also, unless it can set to off on the hill launch assist setting, i can't help with that bit tho but would imagine that the later pump and yaw sensor used on the earlier van may throw fault codes but I'm not sure.

I haven't changed the YAW yet but had bought one in case! And it is luckily an 8C11-3C190-AB
So need a YAW from 2014 to match before any coding for ABS can be done?
Also, do I need an xprog box or VCM2 will work with your V86+xprog?

what happened to vcm2 reset.txt? no long available it says in Mega!!

Xprog extends programming function in ids for 120 days just run it and next time you go into module programming it'll be available vcm2.

Early yaw sensor to 2008 was green speedo Rev band type and didn't have hill launch assist 6c11- then 8c11 or later included hill launch assist so you need to match the pump and the yaw sensor, not sure if they changed after the initial change but if you plan on using the 2014 pump then grab it's yaw sensor i think.

If you follow the thread above it'll have the info needed because i have long term memory problems.
